Whether we accept it or not, children never stop growing. And from time to time, their need changes. And we cannot fast-track it.
In giving your child follow up milk formula, you should wait for 12 months. You may be asking, why 12 months?
Cow’s milk are not easily digested by babies as easily as breast milk. It has high concentrations of protein and minerals. Also, it doesn’t have the right amount of iron, vitamin C and other nutrients. Also, there is a possibility that cow’s milk protein irritate the lining of the digestive system.
So why should you start giving follow up milk formula to your child after the first 12 months?
Well, milk is a rich source of calcium (a much needed nutrient to build strong bones and teeth) is essential to the developmental stage of your child. Calcium also helps regulate blood clotting and muscle control. Milk is only one of the few sources of Vitamin D, which helps absorbs calcium.
Milk is also a good source of protein for growth and carbohydrates to give the child the energy he needs all day.
When it comes to the amount of formula to give—a one-year-old child can get enough calcium and vitamin D from 8 to 12 ounces of cow’s milk formula. By the age of 2, 16 ounces of cow’s milk should be taken by your child. It is also equivalent to two cups of cow’s milk or other milk products every day.
Moreover, you should be mindful about the food you give your child. The toddler stage is a crucial part of the child development. Providing him the essential food and enough amount of minerals and nutrients he need is not just the important thing. More than anything, make sure that you give your child enough time as he grow.
Play with him. Eat with him. Be with him. Let him feel your love and care for him.
