In our previous article about colic, we talked about the difference between colic and cow’s milk allergy. Colic is a normal state that happens in the first few weeks of life but when your baby remains excessive crying even after 5th month—it might be because of cow’s milk allergy.
Your baby might have milk allergy if he is experiencing some of the following symptoms:
a. Vomiting
b. Upset Stomach
c. Hives
d. Bloody Stools
e. Anaphylaxis
These symptoms may occur a few minutes to a few hours after drinking milk. As a mum, there are few things you could do to help your child out.
First, observe your child carefully. It could happen that your child might experience one or two of the symptoms mentioned above but is not actually having milk allergy. So it is very important o carefully observe your child and consult your doctor about it especially when you are unsure.
Next (if advised by the doctor), you may try changing the formula to help him ease the pain especially if your baby is having milk allergy.
Soy-based milk, like Dumex soy milk formula, is an alternative to cow’s milk formula.
Soy milk is made from soaking, grinding, and boiling soy beans with water. Naturally, soy is high in essential fatty acids, proteins, fiber, vitamins and minerals. These nutrients are important to keep the body functioning properly.
As an alternative to cow’s milk formula, soy milk formula helps in boosting calcium and iron. Calcium helps maintains dense and strong bone tissues. Iron, on the other hand, helps the red blood vessels to function properly. Soy-based formula is also lactose free which is helpful if your child’s being colic because of lactose intolerant.
Other than that, soy-based milk formula also contains DHA and ARA which are important building blocks for the development of the eyes and brain of your baby.
So what are the things that you can do as a mum to help your baby?
It is when your child is diagnosed with cow’s milk allergy.
We also had the problem that Alex has a cow milk allergy. We aren't big fans of soy, so we tried out goat milk formula. That's a good alternative as it's easier to digest, and it worked out great!
