We all know this very cliche line when it comes to feeding our newborn: "Breastmilk is best for babies". The usual 4-6 months of straight breastfeeding can cause mums to struggle in regenerating their body's milk supply. They may not have been as plentyful as the earlier months and need some help on how to get on track. Luckily there are available formula milk that are good for babies for this range and above.
You may think that you are not giving enough milk and worries about your baby's nutrition. Your body makes milk based on your babies demand, but you still want to give your child more. That's why most mums do what we called - mixed feeding.
Of course, your body's milk supply will adjust also as you give baby milk formula. You may still do breastfeeding or expressing after a bottle feed. In that way, your worry will be lessen and you can help your body regenerate during the feeding intervals.
For cases wherein mums have only breastfed for a short while, it is still fine. But the longer you breastfed, the longer your baby gets nutrients with anti-bodies. Those anti-bodies will help your baby's immunity. To help those who have experinced that, there are milk avilable to supplement your child. Consult your pediatrician first before giving milk formula.
Now back to mixed-feeding, observe your baby's weight and see if there is a drastic change. Week after this type feeding turns back to normal gain. Consult your doctor to check if weight gain had some issues.
Remember that as long as your baby is continously gaining weight and healthy, rest assured that he is getting enough nutrtion.
Rebuilding your body to regain milk supply takes time but it does not mean that your are not going to breastfeed again. Formulas are there to help your baby get the right nutrition during this period.
